Common Types of Household Pests in Brisbane

Pests vary depending on location, climate, and other environmental factors. One thing is similar though – they are called pests for a reason. Once you have them in your home, the situation will only go downhill unless the right solution is implemented.

That is why it is important that you take control. For starters, get to know the common pests in your area, so you may know what protective measures to take. Or, if there is already a pest problem in your home, knowing what they are will lead you to making better decisions about getting rid of them.
If you reside in Brisbane, the following are the pests that are most likely to plague your home:

Silverfish are teardrop-shaped insects and have a white to brown-grey color. They usually measure up to 12-19mm in length and prefer to inhabit in dark and damp places such as your attic, basement, bathroom, and kitchen. These types of insects are very much attracted to damp clothing and paper. They basically leave small holes on books, papers, and clothing, causing those objects to have yellow stains. Since they can survive in any humid environment, they reproduce fast in damp places.
Cockroaches can be found worldwide and by no means unique in Brisbane, with the exception of the Polar Regions. Aside from possibly causing you emotional distress once you see them, roaches can also transmit a number of diseases to human beings. They produce secretions that can spread out disease-producing organisms, such as bacteria, to food and other places at home.
A common sign that you have fleas in your home is when you see your pets repeatedly scratching themselves. The fleas don’t feed on your pets alone; once they run out of blood to consume, they look for another blood meal from a host. That host can be you or any of your family members. To effectively get rid of fleas, their population must be severely reduced or totally eliminated. This can be done through treatments especially designed to kill flea eggs and larvae, which make up about 95% of the fleas in your house.
There are a wide variety of ants. In Brisbane, you are most likely to come across Pavement ants, which are commonly called sugar ants. Other types typically spotted in this part of the world are Argentine ants, Pharaoh ants, Fire ants, and Carpenter ants. These insects can crawl through the tiniest cracks and for food anywhere in your house. You usually see them in long lines because they leave invisible trail tracks for other ants to follow.
Spiders add clutter to your home and crawl spaces as they create cobwebs. They don’t only create dusty-looking webs in abandoned rooms but they can be very dangerous as they can bite human beings too. Eliminating spiders from an area cannot be done with just one-off treatment because new spiders will quickly claim a spot if the previous inhabitants are killed off. On-going pest control is the most effective way to keep them under control.
 rats Rats and Mice
Rats’ habits can be difficult to control. They also have a unique ability to sense danger in a new environment. They can be very cautious when it comes to spotting rat control devices, such as mouse traps and baits. They are dangerous because they can transmit numerous serious diseases through their urine, waste, and even their saliva.

Mice, meanwhile, have two large front teeth that can gnaw and chew any objects that you have at home. And since clothing and furniture are often the source of their food and shelter, having a mice infestation can be very costly. Having all of those holes in your wardrobe, on walls, etc. is not something anyone would want to deal with.
